Mollie sat on the cool sand and drew her knees up to her chest. The words stay calm played over and over again in her head. She was barely holding on now and didn’t need the added stress of having to babysit a dead body.

The rumbling surf filled her ears while she waited for the police to arrive. It was more upsetting because of the body’s close proximity to the Beacon Pointe Light. Things like this weren’t supposed to happen in her happy place.

Laura and Tamie had agreed this was no place for the younger children and left a few minutes ago. Tamie took Clare home, and she’d let Stuart know what was going on. The teenagers insisted on staying because, technically, they were witnesses and might be needed to give a statement.
